New program matches young readers with dogs that listen
. "Tutors With Tails," a new program jointly sponsored by the Tacoma Public Library and the Humane Society of Tacoma and Pierce County brings young readers together with specially-trained and registered therapy dogs who do just that - listen to children reading their favorite books. Children in First through Sixth Grade can now sign up at the Fern Hill Library (765 South 84th Street to read aloud to a therapy dog during a twenty-minute reading session on Saturday afternoons between 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. beginning April 2, 2005. Library hours changed on Monday, January 24, 2005
On Monday, January 24, 2005, the open hours at eight Tacoma Public Library locations (Fern Hill, King, Kobetich, Mottet, Moore, Swasey, South Tacoma, & Wheelock) changed as a result of action by the Library's Board of Trustees and the adoption of the City of Tacoma's 2005-2006 Biennium Budget by the Tacoma City Council.

The new hours for these eight libraries are as follows:

 Monday  Closed
 Tuesday  Noon - 8 p.m.
 Wednesday  Noon - 8 p.m.
 Thursday  10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
 Friday  10 a.m. - 6 p.m
 Saturday  10 a.m. - 6 p.m.

Hours at the downtown Main Library and at the Swan Creek Library & Literacy Center will remain as currently scheduled.
